Updates and things. Warning I rambled

First off I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day/weekend. This weekend every year is one of the many excuses my family uses to get together at one of my Aunts house and have a cook out and have the pool set up and everything, but because it was raining this morning I assumed there would be no swimming. So I decide to take me time on my outfit and hair and makeup, and let me say it was perfection. I rarely get my hair and makeup perfect, it usually one or the other, but I did this time. My outfit was black flow-y skirt black flip flops and a red white blue and black striped shirt. My aunts and mom were like, "Only Amelia can pull off being goth and patriotic at the same time", but to my surprise when I walked up there it was sunny and cloudless so I ruined my perfect hair and makeup when I jumped in the pool... sigh isn't life mean. Lol just kidding...
The downside to the gatherings at my Aunt's house is... dead zone *duh dun dun* I know scary right? I come back after three days and my email inbox is full on all three accounts, I have voicemails and text messages out the wazoo (Hehe funny word) and many many blogs I need to catch up on. (Speaking of which, if any of you have seen that I've won something could you let me know? I know I won Testimony at The Novel Bookworm. Please and thank you)
OMG Guess what?? SHAUNA AND ERIKA AND KATIE AND JOANIE (and a bunch of other people) GRADUATED!!!! Whoooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay I'm done.
P.S. I'm in a bad mood, like really bitchy and critical so I'm not going to write any reviews tonight. I'll just end up being really mean for no reason and I don't wanna do that so... No reviews tonight.
Oh P.P.S I'm taking Mother to a spa this week(end) so dead zone again, and I can't blog while I'm getting pampered so once again reviews later.

If I was rich (or a Librarian) 4 (and contest)

(Sorry no links this time. Internet is being mean If it decides to play nice I'll add links)

TwiLite: A Paraody by Stephen Jenner (I need this book, I read some of the excerpts. Hilarious)
Glass, Identical, and Impulse by Ellen Hopkins

Uglies, Pretties, Specials, and Extras by Scott Westerfeld

Blood Bound (Mercy Thompson 2) by Patricia Briggs
If I Stay by Gayle Forman
Feast of Fools (Morganville Vampire 4) by Rachel Caine
The Hunger Games by Suzanna Collins

Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen
Strage Angels by Lili St. Crow
Full Moon (Dark Guardian 2) by Rachel Hawthorne

The contest: I need a new name for this. I'm not liking "If I was rich (or a librarian)" anymore. So you guys have to come up with a new name. I have no guidelines for you guys to work with, but I like The Story Siren's Books To Pine For. It's catchy. It flows, but it doesn't work for mine because some of the books are already out. My post is all the books I'd buy if I was rich.
Anyways, there's no deadline, just until I find a name I like. And if you win you'll get a book. I don't know which book yet, but when I pick one out I'll email you and make sure you want it and don't already have it. Or pick a book under 20 bucks and I'll send it. I don't know, I'll decide later. So if your email isn't on your profile page or if you don't have a blogger profile, then leave it in the comments. I guess that's it, but I feel like I'm forgetting something...

Review-Morganville Vampires ( 1-3) by Rachel Caine

From back cover:
" {Welcome to Morganville, Texas. Don't stay out after dark.}
It's a small college town filled with quirky characters. But when the sun goes down, the bad comes out. Because in Morganville, there is an evil that lurks in the darkest shadows-one that will spill out into the bright of day.

Claire Danvers has had enough of her nigthmarish dorm situation. The popular girls never let her forget just where she ranks on the school's social scene: somewhere less than zero. And Claire really doesn't have the right connections-to the undead who run the town.

When Claire heads off campus, the imposing old house where she finds a room may not be much better. Her new roommates don't show many signs of life. But they'll have Claire's back when the town's deepest secrets come crawling out, hungry for fresh blood..."

This was the first book I've read by Rachel Caine and I can't wait to read the rest of her books.
Glass Houses is an excellent start of an excellent series. I read this book in about 2 hours and immediately started Dead Girls' Dance. Unfortunately my puppy got a hold of it and tore it to pieces. I had to wait forever to get another copy and I was running to get the mail everyday to see if it was there yet.

4/5 stars

"
Good news girls: Your dates are here!

Claire Danvers has her share of challenges-like being a genius in a school that favors beauty over brains, dealing with the homicidal girls in her dorm, and above all, finding out that her college is overrun with vampires. On the up side, she has a great roommate (who tends to disappear at sunup) and a new boyfriend named Shane... whose vampire-hunting dad has called in backup: cycle punks who like the idea of killing just about anything.

Bad news girls: They're dead.

Now a fraternity is throwing its annual Dead Girls' Dance and-surprise!-Claire and her equally outcast best friend, Eve, have been invited. When they find out why, all hell is going to break loose. Because this time both the living and the dead are coming out- and everybody is hungry for blood."

(Minor spoilers. I'll make them little so it's easier to skip over)
I really like that Caine had Claire drugged by a seemingly nice guy at the party. Because it shows not to trust seemingly nice guys/people at parties and to always be the to open you're drink. It was subtle and not preachy, which I loved, and still got the point across.

4/5 stars

"
Morganville is such a nice place to live...

When Claire Danvers learned that her college town was run by vampires, she did what any intelligent, self-preserving freshman would do: She applied for a transfer and stocked up on garlic. The transfer is no longer an option, but that garlic may come in handy.

...And die. If you don't mind that sort of thing.

Now Claire has pledged herself to Amelie, the most powerful vampire in town. The protection her contract secures does little to reassure those closest to Clair. All of a sudden, people are turning up dead, a stalker resurfaces from her past, and an ancient bloodsucker extends a chilling invitation for private lessons in his secluded home. To what end, Claire will soon discover-and it will give a terrifying new meaning to night school."

Once again, great sequel. I loved that we're learning more about the vampires. Myrnin was a very interesting character, but I felt so bad for him. A question about the summary, it says, "
a stalker resurfaces from her past" but wouldn't it be Eve's past?

4/5 stars

Overall review:

I love it! All the characters have distinct personalities. Unlike some books, I didn't get confused about who was who and have to back to find out.
The writing is great, written from Claire's point of view is one of the things that makes this series so enthralling. It's kind of like those whodunit games, you're Claire and have to figure out what's going on before it's too late. (I never got it right :) It's a fun, somewhat quick read. Only 247 pages, but what it lacks in size is definitely made up for in the storyline.
I love the shortness of the books and the way it always ends on a cliffhanger. It makes me way too eager for words to get my hands on the next book. Usually, I'd hate that, because by the the time the book comes out I don't want to read it anymore, but with this series I love it.
Some more things I loved: The vampires are the enemies. I mean, I love a good vampire (that doesn't sparkle) as much as the next girl, but it's refreshing to read a story where vamps are bad. Sure, some of them are less evil than the others, but they're all enemies to humans.
These vampires are an enigma. Caine doesn't explain everything as soon as possible. We don't know their weaknesses, strengths, powers, origins, etc. right off the bat. We learn a little bit more in each book.
I could keep going, but I'd end up writing everything from the books.
I think this is my favorite vampire series now, I would recommend these books to anyone who likes vampires.

My friend is in the hospital

About 3 weeks ago Brittany (the one who was pregnant) started bleeding. They took her to the emergency room and said it was stress and she needed to be on bed rest and sent her home. About two days ago I called her as soon as I woke up and I don't know why, as soon as she answered I said, "Are you okay?". No she wasn't, she had a miscarriage. Then around 3 this morning she had a high fever and was in a lot of pain so Brady (her bf) took her to the emergency room. Apparently the doctor didn't get all the tissue and other baby stuff out when she had surgery and now she has an infection, which could cause her to be barren. Also, the doctor didn't give her the shot she was supposed to get 3 weeks ago, which is what the doctors think cause the miscarriage.

And that's the hospital that messed up my step-dad's vasectomy, which is why he had to have surgery a couple weeks ago.
Also, my grandfather went up there for blood work and days later Vanderbilt tells him he has Hepatitis.
And my dad wonders why I told him to never under any circumstances take me to that hospital.

Anyways I'm going to try my hardest to get to the hospital tonight, if I can't then I'm going tomorrow. Either way once again no reviews for awhile. Now I'm going to my flower garden to make an arrangement and try and find a ride.

EDIT: Just got back. She's okay, just in a lot of pain. She might have to have another surgery tomorrow. Let's hope they don't mess this one up to.

I'm cursed

So last night I realized that three pay checks would pay for a vacation. So I was like Dad we're going to the beach. He says no we don't have the money. I say Yes and yes I do. So he said if I plan it all out proving he won't have to pay for anything and that it'll work we could go. So I went to bed happy. Today the TV broke, the outlets in the dining room all went out, the electricity in the exercise room and foyer went out. My PS2 broke. My internet had been only sometimes working for a couple days and it's gotten worse, and the computer too. I've tried to write the reviews and I'll be in the middle of it and my comp will shut down, or freeze. Also, an author sent me a cope of her e-book and I forgot about it until like last month so and the computer wasn't completely working right then either so it took forever to read, and then I finish and I'm writing the review and because of one thing or another I haven't been able to post it. I asked the author if I could interview her and if so, I'd post the review and interview together. Well, guess what? The computer did another unexpected shut-down, so I lost the questions...(I think you still follow me, if you do I'm really sorry. I suck. But I will email you with the questions and I will hand write the review. I just don't know how long it'll take) See? Cursed. Oh and the lawn mower got wet this morning, I guess the wind blew the tarp off, and because Club Cadet sucks and put the starters with the opening pointing up, water got in it and it's going to rust. I mean really, why would thy do that? Why not take after John Deer and put the opening pointing down so water will just roll off, no damage done, but no they decided to go cheap.

So yeah basically, vacation is out. And with the internet and computer messing up (I'm surprised I have enough time to post this) I don't know when I'll be able to post the reviews. I'm going to hand write them (and the interview questions) and if I have to drive 40 minutes away to the library and post them.

Now I have a question. Is it just me or do I have exceptionally bad luck lately? Is it karma, did I or am I doing something and world is just like "F**k you, I'm going to make your like hell"? Are all those mirrors I broke, and ladders I walked under, and black cats I saw on Halloween/Friday the 13th (because they're mine) finally catching up with me? Or does all of you have bad luck like this and you just don't waste your readers time by telling them about it? I really want to know, so comment your thoughts.

What My Mother Doesn't Know by Sonya Sones (BookMooch)
The Luxe by Anna Godbersen (BookMooch)
Taken By Storm by Angela Morrison. I've wanted this book for awhile, but I have no idea why I got it. I didn't order it or get it from BookMooch or anything. It says it's from Jennifer W. so I'm going on the assumption that I won it and forgot. Does anyone know if I won this in a contest?

A Mackenzie, Lost and Found signed bookmark. This came from the author and once again no idea why I got it or how the author got my address. So once again, I'm assuming I won it in a contest, too.

That's it for this week.

How girly am I? and don't worry reviews on the way

I saw this on Dahlia's blog and decided to take it.

"Girly? Not so much.

You don't need to wear 3-inch heels to feel like a girl -- you're happier expressing yourself in ways that don't contort your feet. You hate the idea of being a stereotype (like a "girly-girl") so you go out of your way to defy people's expectations. You probably don't wear a lot of makeup, because you feel like most beauty products are trying to turn you into something you're not. You'd rather spend a rainy day stomping in mud puddles than primping in front of a mirror. You never freak out if you get a little dirty, even if it's in front of someone you like.

19% of the people who took this quiz got the same evaluation."

Wow... sounds about right. Except the make-up and heels thing. I don't wear a lot of make-up on regular days, but on my crazy days I like to wear a lot of eye make-up. My crazy days are when I wear crazy outfits, or go full out goth. And yes I don't need to wear heels to feel like a girl, but I LOVE heels. Wedges, stilettos, boots, stiletto boots, anything to make me taller. My shortest pair of heels are 4 inches. I'm like 5'6" or 5'7" but when I was 2 the doctor said I would be 6'1"-6'8", no lie, but I haven't gotten there yet and most likely won't. But I'm hoping I can squeeze a few more inches out. Back then I was taller than most 6 year old kids. The weird thing is my dad is 5'6" my mom is 5'5"...

I'm still working on the reviews and they should be posted soon. That's the hope at least. I came home yesterday and my dog destroyed my room and ATE MY BLACK 150 DOLLAR STILETTOS!! I was irate. No "irate" is what I was before I saw my shoes. Then I flew past irate so fast my head spun. Anyways I'm still trying to clean all that up and then I have to pack AGAIN because of Mother's Day. Completely forgot about it before I went to Mom's last week.

In My Mailbox Part 2

I went to Dad's for a few minutes yesterday and while I was there, I decided to see whatever books I got.

The Shape of Water by Anne Spollen (From Katie's contest It's signed too. It says "April 2009" and the top and then "To Amelia, You won! Hope you enjoy the book~ Anne Apollen")
Cut by Patricia McCormick (BookMooch)
The Scandal of the Season by Sophie Gee (BookMooch I think it's the UK version)
Fade by Lisa McMann (Amazon) Yaaaay!!!
And also along with Fade, I FINALLY got God of War. I've been waiting for this damn video games for months and I finally got it!! Yippeeeee! When I saw it I kinda wanted to tell Mom I'd be staying at Dad's for a few hours and that he would take me back later. But I didn't, cause that would have been rude so I'm staying and my step-dad's eagerly waiting to leave so I can play it. Oh man, I'm so stupid. I could've just brought my PlayStation here... haha wow. Why didn't I think about that yesterday!

Guess what I found at an antique store?? Books! (IMM)

I've linked the titles this time.
On Tuesday, I finally took my extra copies back, but since I had put it on my credit card, which I no longer have, I had to exchange instead of getting money back.
So I got these:
Undone (Outcast book 1) by Rachel Caine
Artemis Fowl The Arctic Incident by Eoin Colfer (This was the only thing in their YA section I haven't read and might be interested in. I got the first one from BookMooch)
Artemis Fowl The Eternity Code by Eoin Colfer
Artemis Fowl The Opal Deception by Eoin Colfer
Fragile Eternity by Melissa Marr (I wasn't planning on buying this but Dad surprised me with it when we got to the signing!)

And I don't know what else I got because I haven't been home, so I'll have to add them in next week's IMM.
But we (Me, Mother, and 3 aunts) went to an antique store in Chattanooga and I saw some old faery tale books, Aesop's Fables, and a book on faeries. I really wanted them but I didn't have any money, Mom saw my face when I was looking at them so she bought them. She doesn't know this but I'm paying her back. Then at the checkout the woman asked if I looked upstairs where all the books were. Mom said, "Uh-oh Amelia let's go" haha.
Anyways, they're really great, and I love them. Only one can be called "antique", in my opinion. Considering the binding, the thickness of paper, etc. I'd say it's from 1920s or earlier. I am basing that solely on the similarities it has with a book I own from 1909 and another from 1919.
The other books are from 1970s-1980s.
Faeries
The Illustrated Treasury of Fairy Tales
Michael Hague's Favourite Hans Christian Andersen Fairy Tales (I couldn't find a link for my copy)
The Illustrated Book of Fairy Tales
Aesop's Fables (no link for my copy either)
